Senior Manager, Surety Underwriting
An established international insurer is seeking a Senior Underwriter – Surety to drive growth and profitability across its Contract and Commercial Surety portfolio in Hong Kong.
This is a senior-level role with clear accountability for underwriting results, portfolio performance, and broker relationship management. You will lead complex transactions, structure risk appropriately, and contribute to strategic portfolio development, while mentoring junior team members.
Key Responsibilities - Underwrite new and renewal business across Contract and Commercial Surety.
- Analyse financial statements, interim accounts and WIP/backlog to assess credit risk.
- Structure complex risks including indemnity, collateral, limits, pricing and monitoring controls.
- Manage and grow a profitable portfolio in line with underwriting appetite and governance standards.
- Identify early warning signs and implement mitigation or exit strategies where required.
- Build and maintain strong broker and client relationships to drive sustainable growth.
- Collaborate with Claims, Legal, Risk and Finance to ensure disciplined underwriting delivery.
- Coach and develop junior underwriters and support staff.
- Contribute to product development and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements - Significant experience in Surety underwriting (Contract and/or Commercial).
Strong corporate/commercial credit underwriting experience may also be considered. - Proven track record of profitable portfolio management and business development.
- Strong financial analysis and credit assessment capability.
- Commercially astute with strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage complex risks independently with sound underwriting judgment.
- Leadership capability with experience mentoring junior staff.
- Relevant tertiary qualification preferred.
