Senior Underwriter, Property

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive the underwriting and development of the Property portfolio, with a focus on profitable growth, new business production and retention.
  • Manage portfolio performance and maintain appropriate underwriting standards, controls and service levels.
  • Review and enhance underwriting processes and workflows to improve operational efficiency and consistency.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, distribution partners and other key business partners.
  • Identify cross-business opportunities and collaborate with regional teams to support broader APAC growth objectives.
  • Provide technical guidance, training and mentoring to junior and less experienced underwriting colleagues.
  • Work closely with Claims, Risk Engineering and other internal functions to support effective underwriting decisions and client service.
  • Contribute to underwriting strategy, product development, market positioning and business planning for the Property portfolio.
  • Coordinate with relevant internal teams to ensure smooth day-to-day underwriting operations.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of market developments, emerging risks, competitor activity and industry trends through relationships across the insurance and reinsurance market.
Requirements
  • University degree with relevant professional insurance qualifications preferred.
  • Minimum 12 years' experience within the insurance industry, including at least 5 years of solid Property underwriting experience.
  • Strong technical underwriting capability and comprehensive knowledge of commercial Property insurance.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and developing a profitable underwriting portfolio.
  • Existing relationships within the broker and insurance market would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of reinsurance structures and practices would be an advantage.
  • Strong commercial judgement, numerical ability and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to provide technical guidance and support to colleagues.
Candidates with slightly less experience may also be considered at Underwriter level.
