Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of underwriters, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and ensuring consistent application of underwriting guidelines and risk assessment practices across general insurance products.
- Conduct regular portfolio reviews and performance analysis, including monitoring of loss ratios, pricing adequacy, and profitability metrics while providing strategic recommendations for portfolio optimization.
- Be actively involved in implementing product strategies, including new product initiatives, pricing frameworks, and underwriting guidelines in alignment with company objectives and market conditions.
- Prepare and present detailed technical reports for senior management and sales teams, covering portfolio performance, market trends, and strategic initiatives while providing regular updates on key performance indicators.
- Review and authorize high-value or complex risk submissions that fall outside standard guidelines, ensuring appropriate risk assessment and pricing decisions while maintaining profitability targets.
- Collaborate with actuarial, claims, and reinsurance teams to enhance underwriting practices, develop innovative solutions, and implement process improvements for better efficiency.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Business, Finance, or related field, with completion of all required Insurance Intermediaries Qualifying Examination (IIQE) papers.
- Minimum 10 years of insurance experience, with at least 5 years in Underwriting and some management experience.
- Proven track record in portfolio management and exposure to product development within the general insurance sector, particularly in Property, Casualty, and Commercial lines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to make complex underwriting decisions and develop strategic solutions.
- Proficiency in English and Cantonese/Mandarin required, with excellent communication skills and ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Hong Kong insurance regulations, market practices, and current industry trends.
